Docomomo UK about us

ABOUT US

WHAT WE DO

Throughout the world, Docomomo groups are busy educating government bodies, businesses and the public about the importance of the Modern Movement to the evolution of architecture and planning. Docomomo.UK, the British wing of Docomomo International, is one of the most active and longest established of these groups.

Some of our members are architects, and may or may not be involved in 20th-century conservation work. Many others come from other backgrounds, love 20th-century design, and wish to support our work of helping to protect the legacy of the Modern Movement.

We're based in London and we organise monthly meetings at our base in Farringdon. We also run study tours to other parts of the country and overseas, publish a twice-yearly illustrated newsletter, put pressure on planning authorities, and exchange information with other groups about conferences, exhibitions and buildings at risk.

REASONS TO JOIN US

At Docomomo-UK we strive to educate ourselves about the Modern tradition, take action to protect buildings at risk, and develop the values of Modern Movement thinking. This means monitoring and publicising threats facing noteworthy buildings, providing the necessary expertise to intervene on their behalf, and promoting ecologically-sustainable designs that achieve the best outcomes with the least means.
